Methods

Paste quoted text from the Methods section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks or a bullet mark:

We did this single-blind, randomised controlled trial (OASIS; Oxford Access for Students Improving Sleep) of digital CBT versus treatment as usual (usual practice).

Assessments took place at weeks 0 (baseline), 3, 10 (end of therapy), and 22.

Write your translation on the next line:

A trial was conducted to compare how digital CBT improves sleep versus usual practice. The trial was conducted over a 22 week period, with assessments taken at weeks 0, 3, 10, and 22.

Introduction

Paste quoted text from the Introduction of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

We are particularly interested in the putative causal association between disturbed sleep and psychotic experiences.2,3 The interventionist–causal model approach to establishment of a causal association is to manipulate the hypothesised mechanistic variable and observe the effect on the outcome of interest;4 if a causal association exists then the outcome variable should alter.

Write your translation on the next line:

This study was done to investigate the association between disturbed sleep and psychotic experiences. If there is an association between disturbed sleep and psychotic experiences then improving sleep should reduce associated psychotic experiences.

Results

Paste quoted text from the Results section in the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

For the mediation analyses, change in sleep over 3 weeks explained 30% of the intervention effect on paranoia at 10 weeks, with change in sleep over 10 weeks accounting for 58% of the treatment effect on paranoia (table 3). Change in sleep over 3 weeks explained 21% of the intervention effect on hallucinations at 10 weeks, with change in sleep over 10 weeks accounting for 39% of the intervention effect on hallucinations.

Write your translation on the next line:

Improving sleep reduced both paranoia and hallucinations.

Discussion

Paste quoted text from the Discussion section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

The digital sleep treatment gave added benefits. Depression in particular, but also anxiety, psychological wellbeing, nightmares, and perceived functioning all improved. The effects on anxiety and depression are consistent with the results of a meta-analysis.33 Participants who received the sleep treatment in the trial were less likely to report symptoms at a level that met criteria for ultra high risk of psychosis, depression, or anxiety disorder

Write your translation on the next line:

The digital sleep treatment that was used helped improve sleep which in turn decreased psychosis, depression, and anxiety.

Future Directions

The participants in this study were all university students, with two-thirds being of white ethnicity, and predominantly female. Future research could use a more diverse group of participants.

Difficult Material

The part I found most challenging was the results section. I could not understand some of the information in the tables. For example when ratios and p-values were used.

    Additional Translation:
From which section of the paper is this passage?
    From the Method section.

Paste quoted text on the next line. Do not include quotation marks or a bullet mark:
As recommended for large clinical trials, we used simple randomisation (1:1) with an automated online system, ensuring that the research team was unable to affect randomisation.

Write your translation on the next line:
To avoid any form of biases researchers used computerized randomization online system to pick participants so any form of responses is not picked by trial team.

    Additional Future Directions:
What future research do you think should follow up on this work?
I would love a future research if hallucination cause mental health issues. I am aware hallucination can be a symptom of mental health problems like schizophrenia, but does hallucination cause mental health.

Difficult Material (from original poster or subsequent student):
What did the previous poster state was difficult to understand? (please copy and paste their statement here):
The part I found most challenging was the results section. I could not understand some of the information in the tables. For example when ratios and p-values were used.

Please try to explain the difficult materials to the original poster, as best as you can. (This is where you can help them understand what they found difficult.)

The p-value is just to determine if the hypothesis is true or not the smaller the p-value the stronger the evidence against the null hypothesis. Therefore to prove your hypothesis is true you would love to have very small p-values as reflected in this experiment. The ratios is just comparing the test group and the control group. From the results you can see that insomnia, mania and wellbeing greatly improved at week 22 for the treatment group.

New Difficult Material (according to you):
What did you not understand about this paper, that someone else can help with? If you understood everything, then what did you find most challenging to understand?

I understood the article but the result section needed a lot of attention for proper interpretation. Also the confusion was not definitive and all other variable was not discussed. Variable like the anxiety, and wellbeing was not discussed in the conclusion.
