Methods
Methods:
- Paste quoted text from the Methods section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks or a bullet mark:
The first uses fixed effect regressions to identify how changes in number of rooms per person affects housing satisfaction and subjective well being. The second examines the dynamic housing satisfaction and subjective well-being of those individuals who move to subjectively larger accommodation.
- Write your translation on the next line:
The first uses a constant to identify how changes in number of rooms for 1 person affects housing satisfaction and happiness. The second examines adaptable housing and happiness of those individuals who move into larger housing.
Introduction
Introduction:
- Paste quoted text from the Introduction of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:
There is quantitative evidence supporting an association between space and well-being (e.g. Reynolds 2005) but a striking absence of quantitative evidence supporting a causal relationship.
- Write your translation on the next line:
There is a lot of evidence that shows a link between size of space and happiness (e.g. Reynolds 2005) but a shockingly low amount of evidence supporting a casual relationship.
Results
Results:
- Paste quoted text from the Results section in the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:
In contrast, the relationship between space and broader subjective well-being is linear and distinctly gendered. For women, space has no effect on life satisfaction, and when we introduce a quadratic term space has a negative effect on GHQ caseness. For males, space is positively and linearly related to both aspects of subjective well-being, but the relationships are weak.
- Write your translation on the next line:
In comparison, the relationship between space and happiness is proportionate and changes from male to female. For women, space has no effect on general happiness, and when we introduce a quadratic term space has a negative effect on GHQ caseness. For males, space is positively directly related to both aspects of happiness, but the relationships male and female are weak.
Discussion
Discussion:
- Paste quoted text from the Discussion section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:
Alternatively, the relationship between size of living space and subjective well-being may be asymmetrical i.e. decreases in space may lead to decreases in subjective well-being but increases in space may not lead to increases in subjective well-being.
- Write your translation on the next line:
Alternatively, the relationship between size of living space and overall happiness may be unbalanced i.e. moving into a smaller space may lead to a decrease in happiness but moving into a larger space does not necessarily lead to a happier life.
Future Directions
Future Directions:
- What future research should follow up on this work?
Continuing to follow up after 7 years. The research paper states that well-being is only examined on the individual level and not household level. Including outside interactions and cultural context could alter and provide different results.
Difficult Material
Difficult Material:
- What did you not understand about this paper that someone else may be able to help you with? Or, if you understood everything, what did you find most challenging to understand?
The hardest part about this paper for me was understanding the mathematic grid terminology. Being unsure if they were referring to an actual equation or words that just went over my head made the reading difficult to follow.
Also, I personally find the interruption of sentences with names from research or numbers made it equally difficult.
