Methods

• Paste quoted text from the Methods section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks or a bullet mark:

Results from the community-based sample found that for a six-item screener score of 4or fewer, using clinically confirmed cognitive impairment as the gold standard, the sensitivity was 74% and specifi-city was 80%

• Write your translation on the next line:

A 6 question test was taken by a community. Those who scored 4 or less were compared to a clinical diagnosis of cognitive problems. The results found that 74% of people had cognitive impairment, and 80% of people did not.

Introduction

• Paste quoted text from the Introduction of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

Melatonin, serotonin and other mechanisms involved in circadian rhythms are associated with cognitive functioning, and are regulated by the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN), which are susceptible to the effects of differing intensities and patterns of environ-mental illumination

• Write your translation on the next line:

Factors, such as melatonin and serotonin, which are a part of circadian rhythms are related to cognitive functioning. These factors are controlled by the suprachiasmatic nuclei, which can be affected by changes and patterns of light in the environment.

Results

• Paste quoted text from the Results section in the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

When this measure of insolation was modeled as an ordi-nal variable, each successively lower insolation level com-pared to the adjacent higher insolation level had 1.06(95% CI 1.02–1.11) fold odds of cognitive impairment.

• Write your translation on the next line:

When the measure of incoming solar radiation was used as a baseline, each level above and below had approximately one times greater chance of cognitive impairment.

Discussion

• Paste quoted text from the Discussion section of the article on the next line. Do notinclude quotation marks:

While it has adequate sensitivity andspecificity as a screening procedure to identify those most likely to have cognitive deficits, it cannot be used to make any particular diagnosis and is limited in its sensitivity to cognitive deficits of small magnitude.

• Write your translation on the next line:

Although it is a good test at identifying those who are likely to have cognitive problems, it can’t be used to make specific diagnosis and may miss small cognitive problems.

Future Directions

The paper suggests that similar treatment and lifestyle research should focus on those that are elderly as they are likely to have cognitive problems. I think it would be interesting to follow up on the effects of insolation inside an environment with big windows verse outside.

Difficult Material

I find it difficult to understand Table 4 within the paper, where under “Excluded Participants” it said 5378(27). What does this mean?
