Methods

Methods:

  • Paste quoted text from the Methods section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks or a bullet mark:

A convenience sampling method was used; we completed the following steps: Firstly, we assessed the online questionnaires carefully and delivered them to nursing supervisors. Secondly, they forwarded the questionnaires to ORNs through WeChat groups, and the nurses filled these voluntarily.

  • Write your translation on the next line:

Using a convenience sampling method, researchers provided nursing supervisors with carefully crafted online questionnaires. The nursing supervisors then distributed the questionnaires to operating room nurses to be completed on a voluntary basis.

Introduction

  • Paste quoted text from the Introduction of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

Secondly, ORNs worked in operating rooms for long time per day, even longer than surgeons; thus, focusing on their mental health status is necessary. Simultaneously, their working hours are predominantly during the day, thus their sunlight exposure out of work would be also short.

  • Write your translation on the next line:

It was essential to focus on the mental health status of operating room nurses in this study as they spend an even longer time per day in the operating room than surgeons. Due to working their shifts during the day, these nurses miss the majority of daily sunlight hours.

Results

  • Paste quoted text from the Results section in the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

A multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the factors associated with mental health (Table 2). After controlling for work-related variables, the results revealed that poor mental health was negatively associated with more sunlight exposure hours per day (β=-0.378, p=0.046).

  • Write your translation on the next line:

To study the factors associated with mental health, a multiple linear regression model was used in this study. Ensuring all variables were controlled, this study found that with an increase in sunlight exposure during the day, there was less poor mental health reported among the nurses.

Discussion

  • Paste quoted text from the Discussion section of the article on the next line. Do not include quotation marks:

Multiple cross-sectional studies, longitudinal studies, and meta-analyses have demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency is associated with an increased risk of depression, and vitamin D supplementation may be beneficial in treating patients with depression. Sunlight exposure has been—and will continue—being the primary source of vitamin
D for most people.

  • Write your translation on the next line:

Multiple studies have shown that a deficiency in vitamin D can be linked to an increased risk of depression. With sunlight exposure being the main source of vitamin D in the population, vitamin D supplementation may prove to be of benefit in treating patients experiencing depression.

Future Directions

Building on this study, future research should look at the dissatisfaction level of employees when working in conditions similar to operating room nurses. The questionnaires could be opened up to other professions to see if there is an increase in job-turnover when working in environments that lack sources of light. This could help companies determine what environments are ideal for working in and allow them to tailor there spaces to promote better mental health for their employees.

Difficult Material

The high-level language used in the results section was challenging to understand. The results section stated that poor mental health was positively associated with chronic disease and negatively related to sleep regularity which I find more challenging to understand the relation, than if it were written in more simple terms.

Mental health was measured using the Chinese version of the Kessler 10 (K10) scale.
Write your translation on the next line:
The researchers measured the nurses’ mental health using a questionnaire called the Kessler 10 scale. This tool is commonly used to assess levels of psychological distress such as anxiety or depression.

    Additional Future Directions:
Future research could investigate whether increasing sunlight exposure during working hours improves mental health outcomes for healthcare workers. For example, studies could test whether workplace interventions such as scheduled outdoor breaks, improved natural lighting, or light therapy reduce psychological distress among nurses and other medical professionals.

Difficult Material (from original poster or subsequent student):
What did the previous poster state was difficult to understand? (please copy and paste their statement here):

Please try to explain the difficult materials to the original poster, as best as you can. (This is where you can help them understand what they found difficult.):
This statement means that nurses who had chronic illnesses were more likely to report poorer mental health. At the same time, nurses who maintained regular sleep schedules were less likely to experience poor mental health. In other words, chronic disease may increase psychological stress, while consistent sleep patterns may help protect mental health. The statistical analysis simply shows that these factors were related to mental health outcomes among the nurses studied.

New Difficult Material (according to you):
One aspect I found challenging to understand was the statistical interpretation of the regression coefficients presented in the results section, particularly the meaning of the beta value and how strongly it reflects the relationship between sunlight exposure and mental health outcomes.
